Beauty Shop

I made a comment to Rose the other day about this movie. First there was Barbershop, then Barbershop 2, and now Beauty Shop. Was there really any point in watching (or making) this movie if you've seen the first two? I figured this would just be the same as the first two, with maybe a bit more estrogen. I was completely wrong. It is similar in some fashion, yet this one towers over the other two by miles and miles. I don't know if it's because Queen Latifah made it better over her counterpart Ice Cube, but I think she really pulled together the story. One aspect I really didn't like... The racism they insist in bringing in to all these comedies. The message I keep getting from all these movies is, "it's okay for black people to be racist to white people, but it damn well better not be the other way around." Not cool either way, and that's the message they should be sending out. --6.5/10

The Wedding Date

The Wedding Date, a typical romantic comedy, really seemed better to me than it probably was. I had fairly low expectations since Debra Messing isn't too high on my all-time favourite actress list. She did a fairly good job though. Neurotic, over-the-top, typical of what I'd expect of her. The story was good although by the time they arrive in England I'd figured out the plot twist already. Dermot Mulroney does a fairly good job of playing the escort, even though it seems I've seen it somewhere before. Overall, not so bad. Good to zone out on. --7/10

Alexander

I had the misfortune of watching Alexander after a very long, hot, day of golfing. I'm not really in the mood for slagging the movie right now, but I went off about it to Rose. Crap, crap, crap, and crap. That's all I have to say. Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie? Come-on... On the upside - Val Kilmer did a wicked job. --3/10
